Surely

I remember when the twins came home from the hospital, every relative we had was trying to get us to go out and get out of the house. I thought "surely they must know that we just got HOME and don't want to go out yet". Then as the girls grew, I was constantly told that I needed to do more for me, go out on a date night, go get mani's and pedi's. I am ashamed to admit that I thought "surely these women WANT to leave their baby's sides" or "surely they don't understand me" or any other totally wrong assumption. *I'm blushing now from embarassment*

Now, I know. SURELY they were the mother of TODDLERS! Ok, back to my margarita. ;)

Give me a double scoop please!

I am afraid that the days of being able to hold/pick up both of my babies at once is limited. In general, I think most mother's of multiples (MoMs) agree that you feel like you are never giving 100% to anyone...you are constantly torn. For me, the BEST feeling in the world was when I first got to hold BOTH babies at once in the NICU. I don't think that any mother of a singleton can understand that feeling (obviously) of holding your new baby but looking at your other baby and wanting to be physically able to hold them both. Its the BEST feeling in the WHOLE WORLD to hold both of them at once. I remember when they were about 10 months, I insisted on having a photo taken of me doing the 'double scoop' because I knew my time of holding them was limited. Most moms get to hold their kid on their hip for a longer time but MoMs can't physically do it. Its one or the other and one always feels left out of something. Its so bitter sweet. On one hand we are so lucky to have TWO (or more) babies and double hugs and kisses but the littlest things escape us...like holding hands, carrying them, dancing with them, getting them both out of bed and not being able to carry and snuggle them both...Its getting so much harder for me to lift them up and carry them both (hello? 45+ pounds and 60" combined!). I am pretty little (5'5" and 120 lbs). Here is a look back at our 'double scoop' and in the mean time, I am SOAKING it up while I still can!

This is about 1.5 weeks old:

Ok, I am sure that I went over the limit of annoying on sharing photos. I will stop while I am ahead. There are a ton more I can post (of dad and grandparents too). I just need to remember to get one last double scoop photo while I can still lift them both by myself.

My neglected blog

Like many things around my home, the blog has become neglected the last couple of weeks. Its on the list of things put to the side with other things like cleaning the windows, cleaning the little handprints off the coffee table and end tables and mopping the bathroom. Since my birthday we have had a few things going on....

1) the girls got sick. Not bad but 4 days of a fever for Miss Parker and all around fussiness and misery for all (mommy too!).
2) we have had to begin regularly duct taping Addisen's diapers on. Yes. We've reached that point.
3) we got our new potty seats. We ended up with the 3-in-1 pink seats and the girls love them...though they've yet to go in them. :)
4) we got a new tv and entertainment center resulting in no longer having the enormous baby gate surrounding our 200lb old school television. Mommy is happy about that!!! Anything that makes my home look LESS like a daycare center is a good thing.
5) we had another roof leak in the den/office area and as I type (from my dining room table) I have 7 buckets around my old desk and am listening to the ever annoying 'dibble dibble dopp' (yes, that's the line from Mr. Brown Can Moo).
6) my babies turned 18 months old! HOW ON EARTH DOES THAT HAPPEN?! As we plan their 1st of many trips to Disneyland for September 2010, we realized that they are halfway to 3 already! HALFWAY TO 3 YEARS OLD?!!!! My goodness!

As we enter the age of true 'toddler-hood' I have to say that it is sooo fun. And thank the Lord that I work with newborn babies all the time otherwise I am sure I would have 15 kids by now (well, maybe not). There is nothing sweeter than a tiny, fresh, innocent newborn. Except maybe when your 18 month old gives you real kisses and sings to her baby and comes running to you saying "up mommy!"...that acknowledgement that you are their's and they are yours is so rewarding. No newborn in the world can give that kind of validation. Its really amazing to know that we created them, I worked my tail off to grow them for 34 weeks, we fought to get thru the NICU time and now look at them...people. People that say 'meat' and 'cheese' and 'oh no' and sing to their own baby dolls. People that get embarassed and sad and mad. People that giggle and kiss and hug. People that stop dead in their tracks when they see the new tv in the living room (seriously, that one was hilarious).

On my actual birthday we had a little swim-a-thon in the backyard. We had a record breaking heatwave the week of my birthday so we took full advantage and did sprinkler and splah pool time with the girls. We have numerous new swimsuits for this year but ironically, the ones that fit right now are their 12 month ones from last year. We got the at The Children's Place and I think their sizes run large. We have swimsuits that are 12 months and fit, 24 months that fit and 18 months. It all depends on the brand.

For a comparison, this is April of last year:

Here they are last week with my dad:

I have more photos to share but I am still editing some newborn photos for clients and then working on them as I can...stay tuned for more!
